Department of Restorative Services

The Department of Restorative Services encompasses three divisions; 1) Restorative Dentistry and Fixed Prosthodontics 2) Removable Prosthodontics and 3) Community Dentistry. The Restorative Services department provides didactic and clinical experiences in diagnosis and comprehensive treatment planning with primary emphasis on the restoration and replacement of the teeth with proper form, function and occlusion. The disciplines involved are operative and esthetic dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, and implant prosthodontics.  The department also has the community dentistry component that provides these services to the community and provides the students training in working with dental auxiliaries.

Restorative Dentistry

 

(Operative and Esthetic Dentistry)

Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the diseases of the teeth and occlusion. Treatment involves conventional restorations as well as adhesive composite and porcelain restorations.  Tooth whitening (bleaching) and veneers to improve the esthetic appearance are also included as treatment options when appropriate.

 

Fixed, Removable, and Implant Prosthodontics

 

Cosmetic restoration and replacement of missing teeth and oral structures and occlusion with crowns, bridges (fixed partial dentures), removable partial and complete dentures, and dental implants.

 

Community Dentistry

 

Preventive and rehabilitative dental treatment services provided to geriatric, disabled and chronically ill and aged population.  Treatment venues include the College of dentistry clinic, long-term care facilities and home visits.
